Can you remove a bad tooth and replace it with an implant on the same day?

Had a root canal, but the tooth is still bothering me and needs to be taken out( Since it is a molar). I would really like it replaced with an implant.

Can this be done on the same day?

Extraction and Implant
by: Sharon B., RDH

Hi Mikal,

when a tooth is removed there is a large portion of bone missing in it's place. This is what we refer to as a socket. When an implant is placed it needs to be placed into extremely healthy and well-formed bone. When a tooth is extracted due to disease or decay, there is a chance that the socket area is not healthy or a prime candidate for receiving something as important as a dental implant. Your best chance at a highly successful implant is allowing the extraction site to heal properly and have a bone graft if that is needed, which takes an additional few months to heal.

Immediate placement

You can place an implant at the same time as extraction if there is enough buccal bone and no active infection.
