Dental implant infection

by Sally
(Sarasota)

Hi. I have some itching and irritation at the site of where my implant was placed. Is this normal? Does this mean I have an infection? Is this common? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have the same thing
by: Anonymous

Like you I have itching and irritation at the site of a dental implant - it's drives me crazy and is constant. I am very concerned why this is happening. I have spoken to my implantologist and he says the implant has bonded well with the bone and everythings OK. If everythings OK then it should feel OK is what I think.

I am going to see a Periodontist but not 100% sure if he's the right person to advise me. I too, would appreciate any advice.

Had the same problem for years (itching and pain at site of dental implant). Dentist always said everything looks good and thought I was crazy. Anyway, the only thing that takes care of the problem is an antibiotic "Arestin". It comes in a tablet form your dentist can tuck up under the gum where the cap is. Itching and pain will go away...in my case it would come back every 4-6 months so I would have to have dentist do it again.

Some people’s body may have some reaction and allergy to the material from which the dental implant is made and I hope that this is what causing the itching and irritation. It is better to consult a dentist to know more ICD 10 Preparation
