Small knot in gum and it moves around?

by John
(Virginia Beach)

I just had 8 implants placed maxilla.
2 weeks post surgery I have a small bump about the size of a bb and loose gum tissue around it. I was told a couple of different things at the office and now I am concerned if they are not being truthful about one of the implants having come loose. I understand this can happen and can work with that. I am however not at all ok with being lied to.

What should I do??

Considering different options for teeth replacement

by Tami
(Cedar Grove, IN USA)

I am considering different options for teeth replacement. I lost teeth in the back and have 5 teeth on the top front...9 teeth on the bottom front.I lost teeth due to gum disease and was told of some bone loss.

Would it be possible to have a partial denture without an implant? I am trying to get answers and options before consulting a dentist. Also cost is a major factor in this decision. Any advice would be appreciated.

Delay my implant procedure

by Ron

On 16NOV2010 I had 2 teeth (#32 and 31) extracted without complications. # 32 had a broken crown and # 31 was not viable with large decay/near abscess. Treatment plan advised by my dentist is to replace # 31 with an osseous implant.

Due to financial reasons, I have not yet begun this treatment.
What is the longest period of time one can safely delay my implant procedure?
What problems or complications can arise if I delay too long?

I am a 57 year old male, 5' 9", 157 lbs. in excellent health and conditioning with no medical history re: bone. Please respond to email address: otawaya@yahoo.com

Thank you

Braces with dental implants

by Nicole Gilbert
(Newport News VA)

Braces with dental implants - Is this possible?

I have an Implant Bridge from teeth 7-9 and I would like to get braces to correct tooth 10 and I'd like braces for my bottom teeth as well. Before contacting my dentist to be referred to an Orthodontist, I'd like to hear some opinions first.
Thank you,
Nicole

Is it customary that the oral surgeon

by Donald G Browning
(Bradenton, Florida)

Is it customary that the oral surgeon who puts in the healing abutment also puts in the crown abutment before going to the dentist for the crown? In my eyes - if an oral surgeon puts in the implant, that implant should include the crown post for that implant. We have two people involved, the oral surgeon and the dentist. The prosthodontist, (dentist) has said that he does not have the proper tools to put in the crown abutment or post.

Torus Palatinus Removal Prior To Implants?

by Cindy
(Stockton)

I have a large torus palatinus that has grown to a size that affects both my speech and eating--but I could live with it the way it is if it does not continue to grow.

I also have a 4-tooth bridge encompassing both incisors and laterals--one incisor is missing. Last night I discovered a large crack in the enamel on the bridge (the crack emanates from or runs into a "pit" in the enamel. This is my second bridge. I assume I am going to have to have another bridge replacement.

I am almost 59, in good health and practice fastidious oral hygience.

I have two questions. First, would it be a good idea to have the torus removed before proceeding with another bridge or implants? Second, what are the pros and cons of implants versus another bridge for the four involved teeth?

Temporary Crown to shape gums before putting in the real crown?

by Sarah
(Toronto, ON Canada)

My implant surgery is completed and now its time to put in the crown. My dentist and surgeon suggested that they put in a temporary crown for a few months before putting in the real porcelain crown in order to shape the gums and make them look nicer. This is an extra optional step and will cost an extra $300. Is it worth getting it done in the long run, or is it an unnecessary step and a waste of money?

Sinus Lift

by Anne Smith
(Greensboro, NC)

Sinus Lift ?

I had molar number 3 removed due to extensive external resorption. I am going to have an implant to fill the gap from the missing tooth. I have a partial temporary bridge to use until the implant can be put in place.

When quoted prices of the procedures, I was told that the site preservation could cost anywhere from $30.00 to $300.00, depending on how much bone was left after the tooth was extracted. I had plenty of bone left, and the cost was only $40.oo. I was told that I might need a sinus lift procedure ($300.00), but that the doctor wouldn't be able to tell if this was necessary until the next visit to place the screw for the implant.

I have two questions/concerns: first, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the minimally invasive implantation procedure versus the traditional, and if one is quicker/easier/less painful, then why doesn't every doctor use it? Secondly, what is the average percentage of patients who need the sinus lift procedure?

I would appreciate any advice you could give.
