Dental Implant Stability - ( specialist article )
Dental Implant Stability: When comparing cylindrical implants vs. conical implants which at the same time compress the bone while they are being inserted in the osteotomy site. That characteristic provides the conical implant with a better mechanical stability than a cylindrical one. However, how does one know with precision when an implant has osseointegrated well? There are a few “old school ways” to do it, but they are not as accurate as modern ways. Osstel has created a dental implant stability measuring tool, called the Osstell ISQ. The Ostell ISQ helps the doctor not only know the stability of the implant, but also make loading decisions as whether an implant needs more healing time or it is ready to be loaded. The ISQ stimulates a smartPeg mounted on the implant by magnetic pulses which resonates at different frequencies depending on the stability of the implant. That information is picked up by the instrument and interpreted in a meaningful way for the doctor.
