Dental implant surgery two years ago

by Erica

I have had dental implant surgery two years ago in my upper right canine tooth. Everything went as planned and it looks great. As of last night, I have noticed the area above one side looks swollen and bruised. I don't believe it hurts, other than what I have caused by touching it since I realized it happened.

Could it be something to do with my brushing? At first I thought it was just swollen but now that I have looked in better lighting it seems to be bruised as well...

I have booked an appointment with my dentist but it is not for a few weeks... should I be worried? Anyone else experience this?

Thank you!!

Implant Surger NEW

Hi Erica,

I did something very similar the other day when I was brushing my teeth. "toothbrush trauma" is fairly common and sometimes we get a little carried away, slip, and irritate the gums...without even really noticing it.

If it does not go away within 10-14 days I would see your dentist to x-ray the area for any infection from a nearby tooth, or problem around the implant post.

Maybe you just should go for x-ray and on a consultation to other dentist to make sure everything is ok?
