Pain in Gums and Cheek after Implant on tooth #11
I had implants placed on teeth #7 and #11 due to impacted canines. There were never issues with #7, but #11 on the other hand did fail. After having it removed and the area re-grafted, it was placed again about 6 months ago, with a healing abutment placed about 3 months ago, and the permanent crown 6 weeks ago.
Last week, I started experiencing pain in the gums surrounding this area, as well as in the cheek on the whole left side of my face. The pain is constant, but the pain in my cheek gets worse when I touch (to wash my face, put lotion on).
I went to my dentist who took films and said the implant looked fine, he also irrigated the area, and tested the nerves of my surrounding teeth, all of which were normal. He then told me to see my oral surgeon, who was out of town, I saw one of his colleagues who viewed the films, and gave me amoxicillin, although he did say he was not sure what was going on.
I am going to see my oral surgeon who placed the implants in 2 days, but I am on day 5 of my anitibiotic with NO relief.
Any idea what could be wrong?
