Placement of the denture abutment

I have had the dental implant surgery done and am awaiting the placement of the denture abutment.

My dentist is telling me there are several steps now to complete this and there are several different colored "bands" starting with white that he has use and then replace over weeks. What are these for and why does he have to start at the "bottom" and move up through them?

These colored bands could be permucosal healing screws i presume.
yes they are important to increase the consistency of gingiva,
in a way to make them more healthy, please do as dentist says
