Price Quote For A Dental Implant

by Concerned implant patient
(Dallas, Texas)

Does this price quote for a dental implant with closed sinus graft seem reasonable?

I live in the Dallas area, and my dentist provided me with the following price quote for a dental implant (lower back tooth #14):
MRI of Tooth # 14 $ 450
Extraction of Tooth # 14 $ 50
Alveoloplasty $ 75
Sockit gel $ 10
Closed Sinus Graft $ 1,800
Placement of Implant Post/Abutment $ 2,500
Implant Crown $ 1,500
TOTAL COST $ 6,385

In this regard, I have the following questions:
(1) Do you consider the $ 6,385 quote (and the component parts of the quote) to be reasonable?
(2) Is it standard procedure to do an MRI on the tooth that needs extraction and a subsequent implant? And, if so, is the $ 450 cost reasonable?
(3) Is it standard procedure to do a closed sinus graft when doing an implant? And, if so, is the $ 1,800 cost reasonable?
(4) Should an implant crown be more expensive than a standard crown, i.e., the dentist charges $ 750 for a regular crown BUT $ 1,500 for an implant crown?

We have a meeting with the dentist on Wednesday, March 10th, and want to be prepared to ask questions.

Thank you for your help.

Your quote is too high

Your quote is high.
I am a candidate for implants and have been pricing and getting quotes lately and nobody has been above $5000 for the implant and crown.

Why mess with the sinus area on a lower molar?
That sounds odd to me.

Great work for less than half the price

I recently had 4 crowns and 3 implants and the total cost was $6,000. I had 4 ceramic crowns and the 3 implants. I went to 4th Street Dental Spa in Louisville, KY. The dentist is Dr. Tanya Long and her husband owns the lab inside her office.

This is why prices are so low. They don't have lab fees since he does all the lab work in house.
David does beautiful work

Definitely on the high end

Given the total cost - $450 for an MRI doesn't seem like much but seems a bit much for just one tooth.

#14 is an upper back molar. This is in the sinus area. The sinus lift is adding a lot to your cost. There are many types of implants. Some are designed to avoid sinus lift in some cases. The sinus lift is an iffy area. Need for sinus lift is more often associated with area in upper back where tooth/teeth were extracted some years ago. However, every case is different.

The cost of the crown on implant is suspect. Quoted price for implant crowns usually also include the cost of the abutment and hence are higher than just a crown. However, it seems that the cost of an abutment is included in the implant price. So if abutment is already in one price it should not be in the other.

Hope you got a second estimate.

Actually the best place for dental implants is Costa Rica. If you need excellent dental at a fraction of US cost I would check out Costa Rican Dental. This is a State Side group that really knows Costa Rican and dental and their services are free. Costa Rican Dental - http://www.costaricandental.com/

Normally implants in Costa Rica are 50%-60% less than US. If you are only doing 1 implant it is a toss up but for a couple then you should strongly consider Costa Rica.

Certainly on the high side

Probably don't need MRI. Need for sinus lift needs a second opinion. Crown cost is to high. Cost of abutment already included in implant price.
