Tooth continues to feel like something is too tight

by MaryAnn

I had #11 dental implant restoration completed, but the tooth continues to feel like something is too tight. It's like there is something pressing against my gum all the time and giving me a tight/pressure feeling.

I had a similar feeling during the process but it's worse now. I had my dental hygienist thoroughly clean around the implant thinking there was excess cement lodged somewhere, but that was not the case. It did feel better for a couple of hours after she cleaned it.
I constantly floss around the implant because it just feels like I have to do that to alleviate the pain, but of course it doesn't.

My restorative dentist says everything looks fine, the gum looks healthy.

What could cause the tight/pressure/pinching feeling as if something is stuck between my teeth?

I did have bone grafting done as part of the implant process.

Tight Around Implant
by: Sharon B., RDH

Hi MaryAnn,

Your gums may not have fully adjusted yet after having the dental implant placed. Remember, they have nerve endings too, so if something in your mouth is even a millimeter off or different than it used to be, your mouth will feel it. You'll be more aware of changes in your mouth for a while until you grow accustomed to them. If no infection or gingivitis appears around the dental implant then everything should be fine. Sometimes implants may be placed a little lower than they should be and the gums recede slightly. However, this does not sound like your case, so I recommend just giving it some time.

I have the same symptoms -tight feeling and sore gum NEW
by: John M

I had my implant placed over 2 years ago and the crown about 9 months later. From the day the crown was placed it had felt tight . Still feels that way after more than a year. And the gum on the outside (tooth 2) feels sore when light pressure applied.
Oral surgeon checked it out 6months ago and said all was fine but had no explanation for the symptom. How much time is enough to wait for this to improve?

I had a bone garft on my front lower tooth a week ago. It feels very un-natural, like something in stuck below my gum? My periodonist said this is normal healing? Any comments? Please advise?

I had the same issue after my bone graft on the upper pre-molar area. It felt like someone had stuffed tissue paper under my gum. It does heal in time and that unnatural feeling will go away. I did need a frenectomy to release some of the pressure on the inside of my gum after the graft. This is a 20 in procedure. Hang in there

Tight teeth after implant NEW
by: Anonymous

I had this after an implant. Once or twice a year if end up with what felt like really bad tooth ache as the teeth clashed or something. Lasted for ages. Dentist thought everything OK, x-rays all fine. Eventually saw another dentist and he filed down some of the implant crown with this tape. Wow, totally fixed it, much more comfortable now.
