Bone Loss
by: Sharon B., RDH

Hi Leddy,

Implants are used to replace missing teeth. They are not a treatment for bone loss. When dentures are worn for long periods of time it can cause wear on the jaw bone and it may recede more. By wearing implants you can help stimulate some pressure on the areas that they are placed in. Make sure you are taking any medications or vitamins for bone health to encourage healthy calcification. Follow all of your doctor's orders concerning conditions like menopause as it can effect your bone health.

Dental implants can be placed in healthy jaw bone no matter how long it has been since the teeth have been removed.
