My one molar is extracted and now the teeth near them are shifting from their places. What should I do? Will a BRIDGE help my teeth regain their positions??

Bridge Preventing Tooth Shifting
by: Sharon B., RDH

Hi Mohammed

To prevent 2 teeth from leaning in toward the space of a missing tooth, something must be placed in that area to fill the space. This can be a temporary ?space maintaner? which is a metal band and loop cemented to an adjacent tooth (usually used on children), an implant, a removable appliance such as flipper or partial denture, or a permanent bridge.

Anything permanent in this area will prevent the other teeth from falling in on the space. Remember it doesn?t just affect those two teeth, but it effects the teeth next to those, and then the teeth on the opposite arch that they bite against. Dental implants are one of the most natural ways to fill the area of a missing tooth, as bridges require cutting down the teeth on either side.
